It’s 1905, in New York City, where Esther, a black seamstress, lives in a boarding house and sews intimate apparel for clients who range from wealthy white patrons to prostitutes. Her plan is to find the right man and use the money she’s saved to open a beauty parlor where black women will be treated royally. Through an aquiantance she begins corresponding with a Carribbean man, George, who convinces Esther to marry him sight unseen. Once in New York, George squanders Esther savings on liquor and whores. Hurt by his betrayal, Esther returns to her sewing in hopes of again fulfilling her dream. &&Drama
