Synopsis: Much like the Footlight Club, the Oberon Playhouse found itself down most of its male performers in 1942 as they went off to war. The wife of the long time director decides to keep the theater going and directs an all-female production of Henriad, keeping the theater open despite the lack of men.
On Sunday, February 15, stay after the show for a talkback with director Eric Roberts, and documentary writer/director, Cheryl Eagan-Donovan on the role of gender in Shakespeare.
Cheryl Eagan-Donovan, MFA, is a writer, director, and producer whose documentary Nothing Is Truer than Truth premiered on Hulu in 2019, is available on Amazon Prime and Apple TV in North America and aired on SkyArts TV in the U.K. and in New Zealand under the title Shakespeare: The Man Behind the Name. Her new film, All the World’s a Stage: Shakespeare and the Invention of Modern Theatre, is currently in post-production. She teaches writing, literature, and film at Lesley University, has published articles about Shakespeare, screenwriting, and cinema, and has received three research grants to study manuscripts related to Shakespeare, his contemporaries, and the history of theatre in 16th century London
